About

Born at a red robot in Joburg.

Robot Ronin started with a simple joke. In South Africa we call traffic lights "robots". Picture a wandering samurai, katana drawn, ready for battle, and then stopped dead by a robot that just won't turn green. Patience, then action. Wait for the green. Then strike.

That's the whole idea of the brand: everyday South African life, the stuff that makes us laugh and groan at the same time, drawn in an original anime style. Load shedding. Minibus taxis. "Now now" that could mean five minutes or five hours.

Robot Ronin character sheet: a boxy battered robot with a traffic-light head, straw hat, scarf and katana, shown front, side and with four expressions
Meet the ronin: a battered little robot whose face is a traffic light. Red means annoyed, amber means suspicious, green means go.

Proudly South African

Robot Ronin is designed and run from South Africa. Our garments are printed on demand by print partners close to our customers, so your order doesn't have to cross an ocean to reach you.

Original art only

Robot Ronin and every character on our gear is our own creation. We don't use characters, logos or images from existing anime, shows or memes. The designs you see on this preview are early concepts and the final artwork is still in progress.
